Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Q. What are your hours?
    A. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  2. Q. Who do I call?
    A. See the Contact page.

  3. Q. Can I get a burn permit from you?
    A. No, see Burn Permits

  4. Q. What are the hours of the exercise room and who can use it?
    A. Hours are posted on the exercise room door downstairs. Usually open in the morning from 10 – 11:30. Just check on the door. If you cannot come when it is open, contact Darren Gillett (678-794-5996) and he will try to arrange a time for you. Anyone can come use it when it is open after signing a waiver first.

  5. Q. Do you have WIFI for community use?
    A. We do. Balsam West installed their WIFI here and it reaches into the parking lot. Many people drive up and use it from their vehicles.

  6. Q. Can we leave a vehicle parked at the building?
    A. If you leave a vehicle here, it must either be downstairs on the exercise room side or in the large parking lot upstairs down by the building. The large parking lot contains our helicopter landing zone so do NOT leave your vehicle unattended where there are yellow lines. Leave it down by the building in the non-yellow spaces.

  7. Q. Is there something I can do to help the Fire Department other than fighting fires?
    A. Yes there are lots of things. Building maintenance, truck maintenance, rehab on a fire scene, accountability on a fire scene, getting equipment for firefighters on scenes, etc. Just come on a Tuesday night and see if you want to work with us.

  8. Q. Are the Fire stations manned at any time?
    A. The Scaly Mountain station has an administrative person there usually Mon through Friday, approx. 8:30 to 1:30 pm. This person is also a first responder and may be called out during that time. Most days during the week, the Fire Chief is also at the Scaly Mountain station. If you want to come to the station for something, might want to call first (828-526-9032) to verify if they are there.

  9. Q. Can I rent the community room? How much is it?
    A. If you are a taxpaying land owner in our Fire District you may rent the room. See Community Room for information or call Kay at 828-526-9032.

  10. Q. Do you meet every Tuesday?
    A. Yes we meet every Tuesday at 7:00 pm at the Scaly Mountain station. If for some reason we will not be there, we try to leave a note on the door saying where we are.

  11. Q. How much do you get paid as a volunteer?
    A. Volunteers do not get paid. The Department provides many extras, all uniforms, equipment, etc., but we do not get paid.

  12. Q. You have a station in Sky Valley? Where is it?
    A. Yes we have a station in Sky Valley. It is at 1654 Saddleback Circle. It is not manned.
