In addition to the Keyholder List, the Knox Box System is a safe and secure way to allow firefighters to quickly enter your home without damage in case of an emergency.
A new program has been initiated by The Sky Valley-Scaly Mountain Fire Dept called the KNOX Box System: Originally this system was developed for commercial occupancies so fire departments didn't have to carry a large assortment of keys to make non-damaging entries into structures in times of a possible emergency. Time was being wasted trying to find the right key for the given address. Some departments carried over a hundred keys for occupancies in their districts. The KNOX-Box system has stream-lined this process. Now open to residential applications the system works like this:
An owner/occupant would like the fire dept. to be able to get into their structure without delay and without damage. The owner/occupant contacts the fire department for information regarding the KNOX Box and based on the number of keys required for the residence the right size of box is ordered and shipped to the owner. When the box arrives the fire department is notified and goes to the key-holder and their keys are locked in the mounted box. The fire department has the only key that will open that box to access those keys. The key is matched to the fire department's district and is unique to that district. This key is secured in the apparatus with limited access. These boxes are well built, strong, and virtually unbreakable.
Medical emergencies amount to most of the SVSMVFR calls for service and this system can expedite firefighter/emr entry into a residence without unnecessary damage or delay. If this sounds like a good idea for you or someone you know please feel free to contact the SVSMVFR for more information.
