Community Room

The Community Room in upper level of the Scaly Mountain Fire Station, 169 Hale Ridge Road, opens as an emergency shelter in case of disasters such as sever weather or extended power outages.

Through generous donations and property taxes the residents of the Fire District have helped build the Scaly Mountain Fire Station. The Community Room was opened in 2011 as a way of giving back to the community. Since the Fire Rescue Department is not-for-profit, there is a use fee of $25 per day to cover utilities.

The Community Room can only be used by property owners in the Sky Valley – Scaly Mountain Fire District. No political or fund raising functions are permitted. A voluntary donation container is allowed, but there may be no charge for functions or meals except for benefits for someone in need.

If you wish to use the community room, first check with Kay to see if it is available. Then sign a contract, available for download as a pdf, and pay $25 per day for utilities and a $50 deposit. If the room is returned clean and undamaged, the deposit is refunded. Before you use the room, you must meet with Kay to become familiar with the facility, rules for use, and the operation of the heating, air conditioning and sound systems.

In case of a disaster or weather emergency, the Community Room can be used as an emergency shelter. Fire Department volunteer Darren Gillet is in charge of the shelter. He will open it if the need is for clean water and to charge phones. If the need is for a full shelter, additional volunteers help with full amenities.

The Community Room is located on the upper level of the Scaly Mountain Fire Station. Go past the truck bays on the first floor and turn into the Community Entrance. Drive to the back of the building on the 2nd floor. It is handicap accessible.
